Betje Pinto was the youngest child of Jacob Pinto and Duijfje Gobets. Betje Pinto was born and grew up in the old Jewish quarter of Amsterdam. Of her six brothers and sisters, five died before the war. Only her brother Machiel Pinto was alive at the start of the occupation of the Netherlands.
