The Junyo Maru was a Japanese cargo ship (one of the "hell ships") that was attacked and sunk on 18 September 1944 by the British submarine HMS Tradewind, resulting in the loss of over 5,000 lives.

On 18 September 1944, a Japanese freighter was torpedoed by the British off the coast of Sumatra.
The "cargo" of this ship turned out to consist of prisoners of the Japanese.
