This is my grand uncle Max who was my grandfather's younger brother. I am so happy to have added these photos so you can see the light from his eyes when he smiled and the magnificent athlete he was in the picture above this comment box.

The attached Werkendam family photos I supplied here of my Grand Uncle Max Werkendam, Nathan Werkendam and my direct family "group photo" under the Zadok family, belong only to the Werkendam Family Trust. We have never given permission for any one else to add a copy right to these images.

Zadok Werkendam was the son of Mozes Izaak Werkendam and Duifje Turfkruijer. He was married to Esther Buijs. The couple had five children, of whom two sons, Max and Nathan, did not survive the war. Two children survived in hiding; one child (already married and with a family of his/her own) surivived the camps.

Max Werkendam werd geboren op 28 april 1917 als zoon van Zadok Werkendam en Esther Buijs. Max trouwde op 31 maart 1942 in Amsterdam met Clara de Vries. Van hun huwelijk werd een bijzondere 8 mm film gemaakt die verwerkt is in “Joodse Bruiloft in Oorlogstijd” van Willy Lindwer. Max kwam in Bergen Belsen om op 31 mei 1945. Clara overleefde de oorlog.
