Jakob Lichtenstern went into hiding during the war in Voorthuizen with his son and non-Jewish daughter-in-law. When the Germans came to look for him he hid on the top shelf of a wardrobe. He was found there nonetheless. Before he went away with the Germans he took his granddaughter on his lap and sang a song with her.
