Before the war Simon Gokkes’s family lived at Bronkhorststraat 48 in the south district of Amsterdam. His father Simon worked nearby, at the conservatory. In the war, the family was forced to move to the ‘Jewish neighbourhood’ near the Nieuwmarkt. They were deported from the address in Tilanusstraat, in the east district of Amsterdam.
