Salomon Eckstein and his family

Salomon Eckstein moved from his place of birth in Uithuizen to Apeldoorn in 1904. In 1912 he became a nurse at the Jewish psychiatric institution Het Apeldoornse Bos, where he met the student nurse Sara de Meza in 1913. The two were married in 1917 and in 1919 had a child who survived the war. On the eve of their deportation, the Eckstein family lived at 16 Osseveldseweg in Apeldoorn.

Salomon Eckstein was the chairman of the local trade union and taught Esperanto. Sara became head nurse at the Apeldoornse Bos. Salomon Eckstein and his wife were among the staff members taken from the psychiatric institution on 22 January 1943 and deported straight to Auschwitz.
