Some weeks after their marriage Barend Abram was taken out of his home during a raid and brought to Westerbork and then deported to Auschwitz. During the raid Grietje Abram-Scheffer was with her mother at Hofmeyrstraat. She stayed there.
On 3 October they both were arrested and brought to Westerbork and then deported to Auschwitz.
