Samson Koopman, a son of Emanuel Koopman and Schoontje Levij, married 30 June 1920 in Amsterdam to Alida Hijman, a daughter of Levie Hijman and Rachel Reens.
Samson was born in a family with nine children, of whom two children have died in childhood. His other siblings, . Isaac, Salomon, Levie, Hijman, Joseph and Betje, have been killed all during the Holocaust.

Following a tip, two members of the Kolonne Henneicke found eight Jews in hiding in the basement of the building at 61 Amstel in Amsterdam: Samson Koopman, his wife Alida Hijman and their son Emanuel, Abraham Rubens and his wife Elisabeth Aap, Gerrit Vandien and his wife Rachel Kokernoot and Theresia Kroonenburg.
