Maurits Goldsteen was the widower of Eva Eisendrath. He had two children. One of them survived the war. The other child was Frieda.

Maurits Goldsteen lived in with one of his children. In April 1943 he was admitted in to the Jewish Hospital in Amsterdam. In this hospital Maurits Goldsteen wrote a few letters and postcards which have been preserved.
A neurologist took care of him. In the letters he asked for a bread, soap, a paper and writing materials. In another letter a doctor wrote that Maurits Goldsteen had a stomach ulcer and that he had to stay for six weeks in bed with a special diet.
