About Bernard Arnold Kahn

Het Joodsche Weekblad of 6 June 1941 ran four obituaries for Bernard Arnold Kahn. The first was signed by his wife and his children, the second and third by other relatives and the fourth by the board of the Stichting tot Financiering van Vakopleiding en Beroepsvorming voor jonge Joden in Nederland [Fund for vocational and occupational training for young Jews in the Netherlands]. Bernard Arnold Kahn was 55 when he died. The address listed is 17 Hacquartstraat in Amsterdam.

The same issue of Het Joodsche Weekblad also features a necrology. Bernard Arnold Kahn co-founded the Nederlandse Zionistische Studenten Organisatie (NZSO). He supported the 'practical Palestine efforts' cause and served on the board of the Nederlandse Zionistenbond (NZB) for several years, part of the time as the league's secretary, and on the board of the association of Friends of Hebrew University. He established the Palestine development fund (Keren Hajesod) in the Netherlands. In early 1921 he joined the Curatorium as the secretary. The annual reports he wrote clearly depict the economic and cultural course of the Palestine development effort. He often spoke at Zionist gatherings, especially after his journey to Palestine. The last time he appeared in public with Chaim Weizmann at the Concertgebouw in 1938. For a long time he devoted all his energies to the Zionist cause. Later he took over his father's firm Hirsch & Co. 'He is remembered as a compassionate and energetic man, whose efforts helped build Palestine.'
