Joseph Pijpeman was a son of Wolf Pijpeman, a dealer in sponges, and Roosje Trijtel. Joseph had six other brothers and one sister, namely Hartog, Samuel Hartog, Meijer, Jacob, Philip, Abraham and Sara. Only his sister Sara has survived the Holocaust. His mother passed away already in 1926 in Rotterdam but his father and all his brothers were killed in the Shoah.
Joseph Pijpeman was a vendor of vegetables and unmarried. His last known address was C.P.Tielestraat 12 in Rotterdam, which was classified by the community as "institution 100". According the registration card from the file cabinet of the Jewish Council it appeared that he went to a labour camp on 17-8-1942, together with his brother Hartog, as volunteer. (Freiwillige ins Werkkamp gegangen am 17 Aug.1942). That date he was deported to Auschwitz, where he has lost his life on 30 September 1942.
