About Max Karpe

Prior to his deportation Max Karpe lived at 33 Zoomstraat in Amsterdam. He was a professional musician. In late December 1942 he was deported to Vught concentration camp via the house of detention on the Amstelveenseweg. Several valuable items of jewelry and a silver-plated trumpet were stolen from Max Karpe at the various places where he was imprisoned.

Jacob Rudolph Karpe and his family

Jacob Rudolph Karpe was married and had seven children. In 1942 his wife managed to flee from Amsterdam to Leidsendam on board of a peat boat. She and a son could stay their till the end of the war.
Jacob Karpe was arrested in 1943 with a lot of violence. He was brought to the Vught concentration camp. Shortly after his arrival he died of physical injuries.

Aanhouding Max Karpe op 28 december 1942

In het dagrapport van bureau Joodsche zaken staat dat a.p. (agent) Oude-Wolbers Karpe op de Ceintuurbaan heeft aangehouden omdat hij zich daar op de openbare weg bevond zonder Jodenster. Hij wordt voorgeleid voor de SD.
