Margaretha Ossedrijver, born 29 November 1901 in Amsteram, was a daughter of Hartog Ossedrijver and Henriette Broekman. She was a cap maker and unmarried.
Margaretha lived only very short with her parents at home because when her mother Henriette Broekman passed on 4 February 19103, the barely 2-year old Margaretha was placed on 21 February 1903 with her grandparents Jacob Ossedrijver (1833) and Vrouwtje Gans (1838), who then lived at Jodenbreestraat 66 1st floor in Amsterdam.
Only on 20 June 1924 Margaretha left her grandparents and then moved in with her unmarried brothet Isaac, who lived in Transvaalstraat 116 2nd floor in Amsterdam-East. According to the residence card of the City Archive of Amsterdam, a hospital was located there on the 1st, 2nd nd 3rd floor.
Margaretha’s brother Isaac left for Schalk Burgerstraat on 2 April 1938, but Margaretha continued living in Transvaalstraat 116 2nd floor, were even more family came to live, namely Eva (1867), Beletje (1869) and Abraham (1875), children of Jacob Ossedrijver and Vrouwtje Gans, aunts and uncle of Margaretha.
On 20 June 1924 also the unmarried Eva, Beletje and Abraham moved from their parental home, however to their brother Hartog on Oude Waal 31, but when Hartog moved to Joodsche Invalide on Weesperplein 1 in 1935 - where he passed away on 14 January 1939 – Eva, Beletje and Abraham moved in with their unmarried nephew Isaac Ossedrijver (1892), who already lived at Transvaalstraat 116 2nd floor at that time.
When also Isaac Ossedrijver left for Schalk Burgerstraat on 2 April 1938, the aunts Eva and Beletje and uncle Abraham Ossedrijver continued to reside on Transvaalstraat 116 2nd floor. Only Beletje Ossedrijver (name also spelled as Ossedryver), moved on 24 December 1942 to the Joodsche Invalide on Weesperplein 1.
Margaretha Ossedrijver was “exempted from deportation”. She held a position at the Jewish Coundil and had been a cap maker at the J.C.B. (Jewish Centre for Vocational Training) since July 1938 at Westeinde 17 in Amsterdam. According to her registration card from the Jewish Council, her health was not entirely in order; she was troubled by kidney stones and standing work was unsuitable for her. On the other hand, her good qualities, knowledge and skilles were also mentioned such as her 20-year experience as an office clerk, command of the Dutch language, knowledge of commercial practice, calligraphy and typing, extraordinarily diligent, intelligent and able to give guidance to young people. A go-getter!
On 20 June 1943, Margaretha Ossedrijver was arrested during the big and secretly prepared raid in Amsterdam, during which ± 5500 Jews were arrested and taken with them to Westerbork. She ended up there in barrack 71 and on 13 July she was deported to Sobibor. Upon arrival there on 16 July 1943, Margaretha Ossedrijver was immediately killed.
