Lion Brilleslijper

Lion Brilleslijper was the 5th of the six children of Ephraim Brilleslijper and Duifje Roodveld and was born in Amsterdam on 23 March 1899. He became a tailor by trade and married Lea Canes on 20 August 1924 in Amsterdam. She was born there on 12 April 1895 as a daughter of Abraham Canes and Marianne van de Kar.

In addition, a Jokos file (number 55001) on this family is at the Amsterdam Municipal Archive. Access is subject to authorization from the Stichting Joods Maatschappelijk Werk.The Jokos file reveals that a claim was lodged for compensation for valuables surrendered to the Lippmann-Rosenthal looting bank (L-claim, number 1488/1001).

Lion Brilleslijper schreef bij het 75-jarig bestaan van de synagoge aan de Gedempte Gracht te Zaandam, in 1940: “Moge het U ook gegeven zijn het 100-jarige bestaan der Synagoge in betere omstandigheden mede te kunnen vieren”. Het werd nooit gevierd.
