Maurits (or Mauritz) Sternfeld was one of the four children of Izaak and Johanna Sternfeld. The family left Renkum in 1900 and emigrated to Germany, where Izaak Sternfeld established a booming grain business. During the rise of Nazism, both Izaak and Mauritz returned to the Netherlands.
