About Barend de Leeuwe

Barend de Leeuwe was a son of Hartog de Leeuwe and Engeltje Slier. He married Sientje van Minden on 10 October 1883 in Rotterdam, a daughter of Iaac van Minden and Mietje de Jongh. The couple had nine children, of whom one girl was stillborn and five children have died only a few months after their birth. From the other four children, presumably Joseph, Hartog and Maria might have survived the war; however their son Louis and his family has been killed in the Shoah.

Barend’s wife Sientje van Minden passed away on 9 May 1933 in Rotterdam Overschie and Barend remarried 19 May 1937 the widow of Joël Bobbe, Rebecca Clasina Numeijer, a daughter of Hendrik Numeijer and Rebecca de Leon. She passed away in Rotterdam on 11 February 1941, and after the passing of his wife, Barend moved in Rotterdam from Aleidisstraat 82 a to Jacobusstraat 40. On 21 September 1942 Barend has been deported from Westerbork to Auschwitz where he has been killied immediately upon arrival there on 24 September 1942.
