Engelina (called Ellien) was in hiding in Amsterdam for most of the war. In 1944 she was arrested and deported together with her mother to the camp Bergen-Belsen. Ellien was 14 years old and had growing pains. Malnutrition and hard work weakened Ellien fast. After being deported to two other camps, she fell terribly ill. Ellien lived to see the liberation. On May 15th she died in a hospital in Zweden. Her mother survived the war.
Engelina's name is on one of the suitcases of the artwork 'In Memoriam' by Willem Volkersz.
