Felix Eliazar met Betje de Leef in 1939 when she was a physical education teacher. He had intended to have her as his bride, but fate had other plans. When he was liberated from a concentration camp around 1945 and returned to find her in Hilversum, the only one left of the family was her brother, who had married a non-Jewish lady.
