Emanuel Valensa werd als kind "Manie" genoemd. Hij was een zeer ondernemend kind en gek op dieren. Hij werkte als machinebreier bij een fabriek waar kledingstoffen werden gemaakt. Was politiek geëngageerd en erg socialistisch ingesteld.
