Sofie Stein was the daughter of Chana Stein-Kelsen. The Wittmann family had two children: Friedrich and a child that emigrated in 1928 and survived the war.

Chana, Sofie, Isidor, Max, Mendel Vienna 1908
Sofie with her parents Chana and Mendel, her older brother Max and her 14 years younger brother Isidor on the occasion of Isi's Bar Mitzvah, Vienna 1908. Sofie, her husband Emil and oldest son Friedrich (Fritz) fled after the "Anschluss" to Nederland in 1938 and so did her mother Chana (Anna) Stein-Kelsen. A younger son escaped to South America and survived. Sofie, Emil and Fritz were murdered in Auschwitz, Chana died in 1941 of a stroke in the Amsterdam Joodse Invalide.
