Abraham de Leeuw, a cattle dealer, was married to Judika van Baarzel. The couple had four children, of whom two (Hartog Abraham and Hendrika) still lived in Alphen aan den Rijn when the war broke out. Both children were unmarried and lived with their parents. The family lived on the Gouwsluisseweg and observed Jewish religious prescriptions.
The son Hartog Abraham was a metal worker. The daughter Hendrika was a shop assistant at Werneke, a shop for textiles and furniture. She rejected the offer from her employer Werneke to arrange a place in hiding for her, fearing that her parents would suffer serious repercussions if she went into hiding. On 12 August 1942 Hartog Abraham and Hendrika were summoned and left for Westerbork together. Abraham and his wife Judika were fetched and taken to Westerbork soon afterward during the major raid on 30 September 1942.
