Frederik Philips van Buren was a son of Mozes Philips van Buren and his first wife Elisabeth Spiro. His mother died in 1903, and his father remarried Cornelia Polak in 1905. Frederik Philips van Buren had another brother Max, one year younger than he, who has survived the Holocaust.
