Sophia Gobets was a daughter of Jacob Gobets and Betje Barend. She married 3 January 1923 in Amsterdam to Philip van Loon, a son of Salomon van Loon and Marianna Bonewit.
Sophia was born in a family with ten children, of whom four children have died before the war. Her other siblings, namely Rebecca, Judith, Abraham, Catharina and David have been killed during the Holocaust.
