Henri Philip de Leeuw was the son of Philippus Salomon de Leeuw and Roosje Cohen. He was born in Woerden, moved to Oldenzaal and later to Amsterdam, where in 1921 he married Aaltje Polak, the daughter of Joseph Polak and Maria Blits.
